What is HIIT training?

Question: I just want to know about HIIT training ..and how do we do it in gym..what is ideal pre-workout food u can suggest??? Is it OK to workout on empty stomach if Ur doing it for weight loss???

Answer:HIIT involves intervals of high-intensity exercise (such as running at 90% of your max heart rate) followed by low intensity (walking at a moderate pace) or complete rest.Run for 2 mins and halt or walk for a minute on a treadmill for an example. If it is HIIT weight training, you do dropsets, supersets etc with minimal rest between the sets for example 30 seconds between sets. sometimes rest of 10 seconds or 20 seconds is called for.

Coming to your pre workout, it should contain Complex carbs such as sweet potatoes and oats with Protein such as egg whites. NO FAT. Your complex carbs give you sustained release of energy and your protein will preserve the muscle mass during intense workouts. Take it 2-3 hours before you workout. Have a black coffee , its a stimulant and will help you concentrate on your workouts. Caffeine should be cycled as your body reaches a tolerance level if consumed for prolonged periods.

Doing workout on an empty stomach in the morning has no great advantage over doing it after a pre workout meal or later part of the day. For weight loss, be on a calorie deficit. We can help you with a diet if the need be. Empty stomach workout was always a debate. but if you are not breaking the fast and push yourself for a workout, arnt you cannibalizing your muscle tissue for energy? Again for any weight loss goal, you need calorie deficit.
