Question: How does stress affects your body building goals? Are there any food items or tea's,drinks  which we can include in our diet to reduce it.

Answer: when you’re experiencing stress, your entire body undergoes a dramatic series of physiological changes that readies you for a life-threatening emergency. Your Body doesn’t know the magnitude and difference between the stress of facing a tiger, stress of facing an irate boss, a bouncing checkbook, Not sleeping for 7 hrs. It can be Mental, Emotional, Physiological or physical. Your body treats all d same. It reacts by stimulating the body to produce hormones that include adrenaline and cortisol. Essentially, these hormones help you to deal with any threats or pressure that you are faced with. Typically you refer to “ Adrenaline Rush” . Stress is a prime contributor to “Emotional Eating” , Obesity , Headaches , High BP and sometimes Heart Attack and strokes beside several others. Trust me, if you are under stress, your hormones go for a toss. 


Stress Effects on Bodybuilding: There are four hormones responsible for muscle hypertrophy; testosterone, growth hormone, IGF-1 and insulin. Coupled with amino acids the combination results in muscle hypertrophy. Now Your body should be in Anabolic condition in order to Bio-synthesize Muscle tissue which is the prime goal of a Bodybuilder. On the contrary, Stress is a catabolic state. Calorie deficit, Fever, lack of sleep and other stress conditions will put your body in a catabolic state and some conditions may also result in cannibalizing the muscle tissue which is not desired by a Bodybuilder.

To combat stress, The first step is to include parasympathetic activities such as meditation, meditative yoga, low intensity cardio activity, etc. These reduce heart rate, cortisol, and epi- and nor-epi concentrations in the body. They also decrease feelings of “stress.” The next step is to supplement with phosphatidylserine, a targeted nutritional supplement that reduces evening cortisol and, in doing so, helps high cortisol folks get to sleep. This also helps to cut down on binges and carb cravings. ingestion of low-caffeine green tea suppressed the excessive stress response of the body.
