Does stress effect in weight loss and weight gain?

Question: Can you please let me know does stress effect in weight loss and weight gain? Does it also lead to hypertension and diabetes? What are the effective measures that I can do to get rid of it? Can nutrition and workout help?



Answer: when you’re experiencing stress, your entire body undergoes a dramatic series of physiological changes that readies you for a life-threatening emergency. Your Body doesn’t know the magnitude and difference between the stress of facing a tiger, stress of facing an irate boss, a bouncing checkbook, Not sleeping for 7 hrs. It can be Mental, Emotional, Physiological or physical. Your body treats all d same. It reacts by stimulating the body to produce hormones that include adrenaline and cortisol. Essentially, these hormones help you to deal with any threats or pressure that you are faced with. Typically you refer to “ Adrenaline Rush” . Stress is a prime contributor to “Emotional Eating” , Obesity , Headaches , High BP and sometimes Heart Attack and strokes beside several others. Trust me, if you are under stress, your hormones go for a toss.

While many people take different ways to combat stress like smoking and drinking. The best way is to Exercise and Eat healthy as this improves the condition, maintain weight , balance hormones . Hormones such as endorphins, serotonin, dopamine, and testosterone are also released in response to increased physical activity. These happy hormones enhance pleasure and improve self-esteem. People turn to yoga and meditation because Deep breathing allows one to take normal breaths while maximizing the amount of oxygen that goes into the bloodstream. It is a way of interrupting the ‘fight or flight’ response and triggering the body’s normal relaxation response.
